As a self-taught photographer, Matt helps to share the art which already exists both above, and beneath the surface of the oceans, and transforms it into tangible imagery which allow the observer to be transported to another place, and even taste salt water.
Beginning as an underwater photographer and working on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, Matt’s portfolio had since expanded to include works from around the globe, including above-ground landscape photography, street photography, and informal portraits.
Matt’s almost minimalist approach to his work invites the viewer to adopt a neutral mind, and be absorbed by the image. They evoke a powerful, yet humbling emotion which calibrates the senses, and creates wonder in the mind.
This selection of images invites the viewer to take a breath and transition into an unknown environment.
Matt has been represented by The Channon Gallery in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Left Bank Gallery of the Gold Coast, had his work published on the cover of leading surf magazines, and had great success providing artwork for commercial clients.
His backyard is the east coast of Australia, yet, he continues to travel around the globe on a continual search for inspiration.
